Why Should You Shop Sustainably?

Updated: Nov 12, 2020

The fashion industry is the second largest consumer of the world’s water supply. The industry is also responsible for producing 10% of our planet’s carbon emissions. As the pollution and waste we produce rapidly increases, it's important to find ways to combat the issues that may arise.

I started this blog to bring more awareness to sustainable fashion because I believe in order for us to move forward in the fashion world, we must make it more sustainable. In order to normalize sustainability within the fashion industry, sustainable fashion must be talked about more frequently.

Furthermore, I have always been passionate about fashion because it's a form of self-expression. The topic of sustainable fashion is highly important to me because I also happen to be passionate about the environment.

I value good brands who believe and care about ethical fashion. Many sustainable brands are not as popular as the fast fashion brands available in the market. This is due to prices, supply and demand of fast fashion because most clothing from fast fashion brands, such as FashionNova, have access to cheap material and fast labor. The cheap material they use is the reason for the very low prices. However, all of the cheap materials in the clothing they sell unfortunately carries micro-plastics that pollute our oceans.

Moving forward, we must support sustainable fashion brands by providing environmentally friendly solutions. We also need to normalize recycling our used clothing. Other ways we can help in decreasing fashion waste is shopping second hand, donating our old/used clothing, and buying less. Committing to such small changes can have a large lasting impact in the ways we shop and discard our clothing.
